NBA star Jason Kidd was nabbed by the police in January 2001 on suspicion of domestic abuse.
The Phoenix Suns point guard was accused of striking his wife Joumana Kidd during an argument at their home in Paradise Valley. According to a police spokesman, the couple were arguing about the feeding of their two-year-old son, Trey.
Police who responded to Joumana's 911 call said that Joumana had a swollen lip and was bleeding inside her mouth. She refused medical treatment.
Jason Kidd, considered one of the best point guards in the NBA history, was released to the custody of his attorney. He pleaded guilty to spousal abuse, was fined $200 and ordered to take anger management training.
After admitting to the assault on the scene, Kidd spoke publicly the following day at a press conference: 'I love my wife. I love my family. This is a situation that is embarrassing to me, to my family, my friends and also to the Phoenix Suns. I apologize for that and at this time that is pretty much all I can say.'
Jason Kidd filed for divorce from Joumana in January of 2007, citing 'extreme cruelty' toward him and their three children.
