Robert Downey Jr. was arrested early morning on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in the Los Angeles suburb of Culver City on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Exactly what substance Downey was suspected of using was not immediately known, but the 36-year-old actor was picked up by Culver City police at about 12:10 a.m. while walking on the 12000 block of Washington Boulevard.
After learning of the arrest, the producers of Ally McBeal fired Downey from his Golden Globe-winning role as Larry, Ally's love interest.
