A man playing around with a nail gun shot himself in
the head but didn't go to a hospital
until the next day when his boss noticed the injury, police
said.
Jason Duniver, 24, was recovering yesterday in serious
condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
Duniver told police he had been drinking and didn't think the
nail gun was loaded when he fired at his head.
Several people saw Duniver pull the gun's trigger, but they
assumed it was unloaded because he seemed uninjured and there
was no blood, a police report said.
Duniver went to Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky after
his boss noticed a bruise on his head when he showed up for
work.
A 11/2-inch nail was imbedded in his skull and removed at St.
Vincent hospital.
Martha Stewart, a supervisor at Firelands hospital, said she
did not see the wound but added it is possible to survive a
nail being driven into the head.
"There's many places where it's not going to cause immediate
death," she said. "If he survives and comes out of this with
everything mentally intact, he's a very fortunate young man,"
she said.
