EDINBURGH - A young Scots designer is producing a new line of kilts that he hopes will bring the traditional garb back to the mainstream. In a drive to bring the kilt into the modern era, Howie Nicholsby has been making the kilts out of PVC, fake leather and even leopard-print. All of the garments include an inside pocket for credit cards and or other small personal items, and some of the racier PVC and leather models have additional zip-on pockets for the modern Scots-man about town. Scotland can´t keep living under the shortbread tin tartan image, Nicholsby said. When asked what the Scots should wear beneath his kilt, he responded, That´s a personal decision that every mature man has to make for himself.
