AUGUSTA, Maine - A family in Maine went for a casual bike ride on a bicycle built for 48. Roger Dumas built the 140-foot-long bike by welding together new and old models, a couple of three-wheelers and one four-wheeled buggy. One section had two tiers, with a set of three child-size seats, pedals and chains towering six feet in the air. The incred-ible journey hit a snafu when the multi-wheeled contraption popped a couple of tires and a metal rim twisted before it even made it out of the parking lot. The cyclists believe they beat the previous record by biking eight-tenths of a mile, but it may be a few weeks before they learn whether they´ll get a listing in the Guinness Book of Records.
