An elderly Frenchman who could only breathe
with the help of a respirator died when the
electric company
cut off power to his home after he failed to pay his bills, the
company acknowledged Friday.
The local electricity firm in the southeastern town of Nice said
Friday it had been totally unaware of the man's precarious
health
when it cut off power after the non-payment of $200.
``Everyone here is shocked, this runs totally against the grain
of what we try to do in such cases,'' said Philippe Lenoir,
director
at Electricite de France in Nice.
