 Plane Lands On U.S. Highway, Taxis Up Exit Ramp | | By: Phantom | Published: 02/22/1999 | | | |
| SEATTLE
(Reuters)
- The pilot of a single-engine
plane made an
emergency landing on a busy interstate highway
north of
Seattle, then taxied safely up an exit ramp, officials said.
The pilot, who was not identified, was on his way to a small
airport in Everett, Washington, when he lost power to the engine
in his Beech Bonanza, said Nancy Corey of the Federal Aviation
Administration.
He managed to find a gap in traffic and set the plane down
safely in the southbound lanes of busy Interstate 5 near
Arlington,
about 50 miles north of Seattle.
``There were no injuries and no damage to the plane,'' Corey
said.
The FAA declined to identify the pilot and said no flight plan
had been filed with the agency. The 30-year-old aircraft was
registered to Jeffrey Carlson of Lynnwood, Washington.
