LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Reuters)
- An argument between two
men over a proposed sewer line in a small
Arkansas town turned into a fight that ended with one
of them
killing the other, police said Friday.
Charges are pending against 75-year-old Clay Wallace, Jr., in
the shooting death of Robert Qualls, 65.
Both men lived in the small Black Oak community in northeastern
Arkansas, about 100 miles (160 km)
northeast of Little Rock.
Authorities said the two men were having coffee together
Thursday when their discussion of the new
sewer line turned to into an argument over where it should be
placed. "One of them suggested to the
other that
they step outside and settle it."
"Then a punch was evidently thrown, and a gun was pulled,"
said Bill Sadler, spokesman for the
Arkansas State Police. Sadler said investigators were still
trying to determine which of the two men first
struck the other. Sadler said that could have some bearing on
the charges against Wallace.
