TRURO, England
- A woman convicted of leaving her
mother lying on the floor for a week and even vacuuming around
the elderly woman's body, was given a
suspended jail sentence.
Isabella Pearce, 62, died in a hospital two days after a doctor
visited the home and found her lying propped against a doorway.
Benita Pearce, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She
testified that her mother, who suffered from rheumatoid
arthritis, often collapsed and remained on the floor for
several days. The judge suspended a 2-year jail term because
Miss Pearce is in the early stages of a crippling disease,
thought to be multiple sclerosis. It was reasoned that
suffering
from MS at the time of the maltreatment of her mother affected
her reasoning functions.
When Miss Pearce called the family doctor, she told him she had
difficulty getting the vacuum around her mother.
