Jobless Workers Give Boss Taste Of The High Life | | By: Phantom | Published: 07/01/1999 | | | |
| MARSEILLE, France (Reuters)
: Unemployed French shipbuilders held a local business leader hostage for 10 hours 225 feet up on a crane at their closed shipyard before freeing
him.
Claude Cardela, president of the Marseille Chamber of Commerce,
was returned to solid ground Tuesday morning, saying the
incident was "unacceptable."
The former employees of the La Ciotat shipyard, shut down seven
years ago, accuse local officials and business leaders of
failing to live up to agreements to set up businesses at the
site to create new
jobs.
