BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - An Uruguayan man selling newspapers in Argentina was shot in the chest and leg by a thief but kept working for 10 hours before realizing he had been wounded, police said.

John Williams Weston, 28, was shot twice with a .22 caliber gun while fighting off a man who tried to steal his motorcycle in the Argentine city of La Plata, 30 miles (50 km) south of the capital Buenos Aires.

Feeling no pain, Williams Weston decided his assailant had fired only blanks. His thick winter coat hid the blood.

He kept selling newspaper for 10 hours before the wounds began to hurt. Surgeons removed the bullets from his body and he was listed in good condition at a hospital.

A man was arrested a few hours later for the attack.
