SCHWERIN, Germany (Reuters) - Sun-loving vacationers are baring all on eastern Germany's Baltic coast -- and it's
driving other tourists to distraction.
Fights have broken out as the more prudish element have tried to force the nudists to cover up. Social scientists say
it's the latest round in the culture clash between west Germans and their former communist cousins from the east.
One told Bild newspaper that west Germans had flooded on to the eastern Baltic beaches after the Berlin
Wall came down -- only to be shocked by the bare-it-all attitude of the locals.
In the eastern resort of Prerow, outraged beachgoers threw sand at 18-year-old Elke Renger from the eastern city of
Dresden while she soaked up the sun wearing only a smile.
"This is like the 18th century," she told Bild. "Why should I cover myself up?"
