SPRINGFIELD - Psst. If you steal a police pickup truck, don't forget to turn on the headlights.
Detective Lt. William Noonan said Jean Ippolito, 27, of Springfield, was arrested about 2 A.M. Sunday, November 5 for stealing a pickup belonging to the city's horse patrol.
An officer noticed the pickup didn't have its headlights on when it pulled up to his unmarked car at an intersection. As he went by, the driver flashed the officer a peace sign, Noonan said.
The officer, recognizing the truck as one of the department's own, radioed to the driver to turn on his headlights, and when he got no response, he order the truck to pull over.
The pickup later turned out to have been stolen from the back ramp at police headquarters, Noonan said.
