Mourners Gassed at Mother's Wake

One Japanese mourner died and seven were rushed to hospital after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning at the wake of the family matriarch, police said on Sunday. Natsumi Numata, 54, died as she mourned the death of her mother and police blamed a heater used in a room with poor ventilation for the death.
"The family was using a charcoal heater in the second floor of the house when several of the mourners experienced symptoms such as vomiting," a police spokesman told Reuters. Numata's older sister Takiyo Hata, 56, was still hospitalized while the other mourners affected had been treated and released, police said.
