A man who allegedly shot a woman
during an armed robbery went hitchhiking in a
Nashville
neighborhood -- and got a ride to jail.
Quenton Hughes, 21, was hitchhiking Friday when he flagged
down homicide detective Derry Baltimore, who was
cruising in an unmarked patrol car.
Hughes expressed his gratitude for the ride by offering
Baltimore a small bag of crack cocaine, police said.
Baltimore declined the offer and instead drove Hughes to
jail, where he was held on $200,000 bond and charged with
attempted criminal homicide.
Police said Hughes allegedly shot Kimberly
McCord in the head
last Sunday during an armed robbery outside a night
club.
McCord remained in critical but stable condition at
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman
said.
