London - Detectives are searching for two conmen selling laptop computers that are switched at the last moment for bottles of water, Hampshire police say.
In one incident on Thursday, one of the conmen approached a man in a supermarket car park in Hampshire, southern England, and asked if he would like to buy two camcorders and a laptop computer.
When he agreed, the conman said he would put the equipment into a bag, and the customer handed over 600 pounds in cash.
Later, the customer discovered the bag contained only bottles of water.
"People always should be wary of buying goods in the street from total strangers," said Eastleigh Crime Reduction Officer Barbara White on Friday.
