Beating a Dead Zebra

At work early yesterday I was talking with a co-worker who plays in a band called 'The Mighty VH' and perform Van Halen songs. I was a pretty big VH fan back in the day before David Lee Roth left the group. I talked with another friend who wanted to go and I told him I would pick him up along the way. As it turns out they were opening for Zebra. Yea, you remember them ... they had like two hits back in the 80's.

I pick up my friend and we head out to 'The Village Pub' which is about 40 miles from where I live. We get there and pay the $10 cover. They are suppose to go on at 10:45 pm, which is perfect because it's 10:30 pm and the other band is breaking down their gear.

Well, it turns out that for some reason Zebra was going to go on before 'The Mighty VH'. I was joking around and saying how far they have fallen they were were going to open up for a cover band. Well, these assclowns finally get their sloppy asses on stage and start playing and it's got to be close to 11:00 pm.

While I was listening to the band as they attempted to blow out my ear drums (which are still humming), I started to look at the crowd that was in attendance to see Zebra. It was then that I remembered what happened back in Rhode Island when Great White caused that night club fire that killed about 100 people. I looked around for 'EXIT' signs and there was only one, and that is where we came in. I finally found a second exit "Just in Case".

Well, it's getting late and Zebra refuses to let go, but they finally get around and stop their silly solos and end their set ... or so I thought. These three jackasses come back for an encore in which they play three, yes three Led Zeppelin songs. I love Led Zep but I wanted Zebra to go away, and besides who does an encore of other bands music?

Well, to make a long and boring story shorter we had to leave before 'The Mighty VH' took the stage. They weren't going to take the staging until about 1:30 am, three hours after they were suppose to go on and my buddy had to get home (and that is another story for another time).

To think that I could have gone to the Mets/Yankees game tonight at Shea Stadium and watch the my Mets get shut out in the pouring rain.

Decisions ... decisions ... decisions.

been to the village pub many times myself. gotta love the place. funny that zebra was opening for the cover band. even funnier that you WENT to see a cover band, but complained that Zebra would play 'someone else's songs'!
glad to hear there's another mets fan around. (and jskills, too?) besides, you live in LONG ISLAND. get used to Zebra and Richie Blackmore of deep purple. They're gonna stay on long island and play and play until they're dead...

Sorry Rob, sounds like you had your heart set on one thing, and were not able to enjoy another. I have seen Zebra several times, and they have always put on an incredible show. You missed out.

I have Zebra's first album (on cassette mind you) and I actually liked it quite a bit (20 years ago when I was in high school). Zebra started out as a Led Zepplin cover band, so that's why the encores of Led Zepplin - plus people would rather hear Led Zep than Zebra right?

As far as the Mets Yankees game goes - you didn't miss anything. I was there last night. We got pissed on by the rain on at least 10 different occasions, only to watch Shea Stadium half filled with Yankee fans laughing and gloating as the Yankees blasted several home runs. The hapless Mets could even score a run - embarrassing. The place was so packed, the beer line was 50 people deep. Never mind the bathroom lines. The topper was after the game ended and trying to simply cross the street outside Shea to get to the railroad - that took 20 minutes alone.

I think I might have wanted to see Zebra instead ...
