This guy gives new meaning to the label "breast man."
We don’t know if he was particularly fond of that part of
the female anatomy. We do know, thanks to a report in the
January issue of the Southern Medical Journal, that this
gentleman spent most of his 74 years with what appeared to be a
fully developed female breast attached to the back of his thigh
(trust us — there are photos). He referred to his unusual
friend as a fatty tumor that had never caused him any problems.
Extra breasts and nipples are not uncommon, although one
bulging out of the back of a man’s thigh is pretty odd, writes
Norman Grossl of Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. In fact,
it’s estimated that one or two out of every 100 people have
such appendages.
More common in women than in men, extra breasts are often
located in the armpit and can get pretty uncomfortable when the
women start lactating after childbirth. (Let’s see your stay-
dry deodorant tackle that wetness problem.)
But they can also pop up in even more unusual places,
writes Grossl, like the buttock, the back of the neck, the
shoulders and, yes, the face (we’re not even going to touch
that one).
But seriously, folks, extra breasts can develop cysts,
benign tumors and cancer, just like the normal ones that come
in pectoral pairs. And, Grossl says, they’re often associated
with urinary tract abnormalities, such as extra kidneys.
Although it’s unlikely the Guinness folks have taken
notice, the scientific literature indicates that the world
record for most breasts on a single person was reported in
1886. This unfortunate soul (Grossl doesn’t identify the sex)
had a grand total of 10.
