It said owner Chi Jianguo and employee Zhang Zhanguo, jealous of
the good business the competitor enjoyed,
hired Wang Chunli and three other farmers to throw poison into
the pots as the donkey soup cooked.
The newspaper said Chi's death sentence was suspended for two
years. Such sentences, given to allow time
for repentance, are usually commuted to life imprisonment.
Zhang was sentenced to life
in prison, while the three farmers
were jailed for six to eight years, the newspaper
said. Wang was still at large, it said.
A Chinese court has sentenced a
restaurant owner to death for poisoning the
donkey soup
at a nearby rival and making 148 people ill, the Workers' Daily
reported.
